A couple of weeks ago I posted a FB Live about making and setting goals. This was written by my friend, Summer Hatch, who wrote this her senior year of high school 2018. I hope it inspires you!

Today I am going to talk to you guys about something that has become extremely important to me. Something that has shaped me and that has shaped my future… Goal setting, setting goals for yourself. Not for other people. All our lives we’ve been told to set goals. We’ve been told that we won’t get anything accomplished if you don’t set goals and work to achieve them. Most people make up the same basic goals of graduating, getting married, and building a life. These are great goals, don’t get me wrong, but go a little deeper. Think about what makes you happy. Be your own person and DO NOT set goals for yourself because other people wanted you to. Set goals for yourself to be independent. Set your own bar high and prove to other people that you can. A quote from Joel Hawes, a famous writer, is “Aim at the sun and you may not reach it; but your arrow will fly higher than if aimed at an object on a level with yourself.” I like that quote because it challenges you to push your limits. It is so incredibly important to believe in yourselves guys. Because if you don’t believe in yourself then who will? When you’re trying to find motivation, think about 3 things: yourself, God, and the way others will look at you. First, yourself. If you are struggling to find motivation, think about why you started it in the first place. Think about why it makes you happy. What does your future look like if you achieve this goal? God is who motivates me the most. When i’m having a hard time I remember that I have God, and he has a plan for me. I know that things will all work out just fine because god is there. One of my favorite bible verses is Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Ths verse gives me comfort when I am struggling and need help. Lastly, think about the way other will look at you. How do you want to build your life? How do you want others to portray you? How do you want to be seen in other people’s eyes? This is important that you make a good image about yourself… and that all starts with setting your own personal goals. I want you guys to live your lives. We all know that everyone makes mistakes. Trust me i’ve made mine… but how you come back from this mistakes is what matters. What you learn from it is what matters. Most importantly, do not have any regrets. Having regrets blocks you out from being able to learn and grow. All you have to do is say ya it happened and move on from it. Grow and become a better person. Do not have regrets because having regrets means you aren’t living. When you are living the life and are happier than ever.. Be humble. Work hard in silence and let success be your noise. Give all your glory to God because he is the one who put your success in his plan for you. All this wraps around goal setting because goal setting is just the base. It all starts with goal setting. When I was little, my goal was to be an astronaut. I quickly realized that’s not realistic for me because I am not good at science, and that’s ok. As I grew up and grew more independent I started to realize what a huge love for soccer I had. Soccer was my escape and what made me genuinely happy. I wanted to play soccer for the USWNT. I found myself constantly thinking about what it would be like to play more competitively. I played soccer my whole life basically and I never had a break. I was motivated because i liked what i was doing. I always had the idea set in my head to have a career in soccer. I’ve had a lot of people tell me ill never make it to play past high school. And you know what? That motivates me more than ever. I want to prove them wrong. Now look at me. I am committed to CSU Pueblo to play soccer for four more years. I’ve been offered a partial scholarship for athletics and a partial scholarship for academics. My hard work for 17 years is finally paying off. College to me is like the USWNT. If i never would have made that goal then I never would have been able to find to motivation to make it this far. This is why it’s all worth it. So just remember to set goals. Remember to push yourself. Remember to live with no regrets. Remember to give all your glory to God. Remember to be humble. And remember it will all be worth it in the end, Thank you!
